Change is needed – the new general dental services contract will improve access to NHS dentistry and a system which is fair and effective.
These reforms are a result of years of piloting, tripartite negotiations, broad consultation and active management of the transition. This has ensured that we have an evidence-based, thorough approach to contract reform aimed at improving access for all and prioritising oral health needs based on risk across Wales.
We are working closely with health boards and the dental profession through an established and well-functioning implementation group. This group is supporting the delivery of the reforms to ensure health boards and providers are fully prepared for the introduction of the new contractual arrangements on 1 April and they will play a key role in monitoring the new contract.
