Restricting the movement of staff is an important intervention in reducing the risk of transmission of COVID-19 within health settings, and preventing outbreaks of infection.

In July this year a joint letter issued from the CMO, CNO and Interim Director of Workforce and Corporate Business to the Health Boards across Wales on the use of bank, agency or locum staff during COVID-19.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, health settings have been taking a range of actions to minimise the movement of workforce in order to reduce the risk of transmission of the virus between members of staff, between staff and service users and between different providers.

Health Boards are asked to review the need to redeploy staff and utilise temporary staff including bank, agency and locum staff risk assessed with a view to minimising staff movement between care pathways, wards and departments.

As far as possible, Health Boards are minimizing the movement of staff and patients, cohorting staff as well as patients i.e. dedicated teams of staff assigned to care for patients who are known to be COVID-19 positive or suspected of being positive.
