Assessment of housing need is a statutory responsibility of Local Authorities not Welsh Government. However, the Welsh Government’s national planning policy requires planning authorities to identify where interventions may be required to deliver older people’s housing, where a need has been identified. This may include the identification of specific sites and policies in Local Development Plans. This is set out in the recently revised Planning Policy Wales published on 5 December.
