The National Academy for Educational Leadership was launched on 16 May 2018 which included the announcement that the new Chief Executive Office for the NAEL would be Huw Foster Evans.  The first meeting of the new Board took place on 16 July 2018.

The Academy will be fully operational from the beginning of September when it moves into its new offices in Swansea.

Since January 2018 an Academy Associates Programme has been piloted. This not only included a development programme for high achieving Head teachers, but also involved developing the Associates’ Programme for future cohorts. The first Associates for the programme to be supported by the Academy will be recruited from January 2019.

At the launch event I also made a call for the provision to come forward to be considered for endorsement. The first call was for provision that covered development of Acting and new to Headship programmes. Again this was a pilot endorsement process which not only developed the process but also began to establish the standards for future calls. The next call for endorsement is expected to take place in September for experienced Head Teacher programmes. A full list of the endorsement timetable is on the NAEL website.

Both the Associates’ Programme and the Endorsement Process will continue to be developed ensuring that the bar is set at the highest standards. It is now a matter for the NAEL to consider how it will continue to make an impact on Leadership in Wales and I look forward to seeing it develop and grow.
