Recruitment and retention data for secondary phase leadership is collected as part of the Pupil Level Annual Schools Census (PLASC). Information on recruitment and retention for primary schools does not provide a breakdown for head teacher and deputy head posts.
Table 1 below shows the number of head teachers and deputy heads in secondary schools with no teaching commitments who left the profession over the last 3 calendar years. These figures exclude those who left at normal retirement age.
