There is no doubt that the Welsh Government has a role to play in working with new housing developers to agree a marketing strategy that promotes all schools without bias or disadvantage – be they English-medium or Welsh-medium.
The Welsh in Education Action Plan 2017-21 commits to establishing an Independent Advisory Board to review the current infrastructure that supports the planning of Welsh-medium education. This board is due to meet within the next few weeks and the promotion of Welsh-medium education in relation to new housing developments will need to be discussed. In the meantime, I will be writing to all major housing developers currently operating in Wales requesting equal and fair promotion of all schools used in the marketing of new housing developments.
